Job Overview
The Charging Infrastructure Engineer at Mazi Mobility plays a key role in the design, installation, and quality control of EV charging infrastructure. This role involves developing electrical designs, supervising installations, ensuring quality control for bikes and charging stations, and supporting research and development (R&D) efforts of charging infrastructure. The Junior Engineer will collaborate with the engineering team to enhance the reliability, safety, and efficiency of Mazi Mobility’s battery swapping and charging systems.
Purpose
The primary purpose of this role is to ensure the successful design, deployment, and maintenance of Mazi Mobility’s charging infrastructure. By overseeing electrical design, installation supervision, and quality control, the Junior Engineer directly contributes to Mazi Mobility’s mission of powering Africans into an electrified future.
Importance within the Organization
As Mazi Mobility scales its battery swapping and charging infrastructure, this role is essential in ensuring system reliability, compliance with safety standards, and operational efficiency. The Junior Engineer will be responsible for designing electrical systems, supervising installations, ensuring quality control, and documenting technical processes. Their contributions will support Mazi Mobility’s long-term vision of being Africa’s leader in moving people, data and things.
Key responsibilities
1. Work with the Lead Engineer to explore new technologies, optimize designs, and improve charging efficiency while participating in prototyping and testing of new electrical solutions for Mazi Mobility’s charging network.
2. Electrical Design of Charging Infrastructure by developing electrical schematics and layouts for EV charging stations and battery swapping systems while ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
3. Collaborate in developing and optimizing firmware for battery swapping stations and EV charging infrastructure to enhance system efficiency and interoperability.
4. Work with technicians and contractors to execute electrical installations for charging infrastructure and conduct inspections to ensure proper implementation of electrical designs.
5. Perform QC checks on electric bikes, charging stations, and power systems to ensure optimal performance and safety while identifying and troubleshooting electrical faults and system inefficiencies.
6. Reporting & Documentation by maintaining detailed records of electrical designs, installations, firmware updates and QC activities. Provide regular updates to the Engineering Lead and contribute to system development strategies.
7. Provide support across both engineering and non-engineering tasks as needed, demonstrating flexibility and a proactive approach to team objectives.
Qualifications and Skills
BSc in Electrical, Electronics, or Power Engineering, or a related field.
Hands-on experience with electrical system design, power distribution, or EV charging infrastructure is a plus.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, ETAP, or similar electrical design software.
Strong understanding of power systems, electrical safety, and grid connectivity.
Familiarity with battery charging principles, energy management, and protection systems.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Ability to work independently and lead on-site teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in EV charging infrastructure design and deployment.
Hands-on experience with electrical installations and maintenance.
Prior involvement in quality control and compliance testing.
